My name is Norm Allen, and here is a little about me:
I began teaching at EHHS November of 2009 and I teach classes in both science and social studies. My classroom is room number 30, which is upstairs in what we like to call the weather station. I graduated from Snow College and then Weber State where I majored in Geography and minored in Anthropology. Afterwards, I went to the University of Phoenix and earned my masters of secondary education. I am really excited to work at a school like East Hollywood, there are so many talented students that attend this school and below I have some links to some work that has been done by previous students at EHHS. |
What to expect in my classroom?
Respect: This is the most important rule at EHHS! Respect yourself, and those around you, including your teachers. What does that entail? Make sure that you are using appropriate language in my room and around the school, that you are on time and prepared for class, that you do not engage in discussions that would draw negative attention to yourself or other students. I will also work to maintain an appropriate setting and learning environment so that all my students and guests will feel comfortable in participating in our learning environment.
What can you expect on a typical day in my class? We have work to do everyday, in the form of discussions, group activities and individual worksheets. Participation is an expectation in many of my classes, be prepared to share ideas, help others in small groups and even if we are watching a video keep your focus on what we are doing. Also, just be a friendly Manbear and perhaps make a new friend.
It is good to always bring something to write with as well as paper! I do what I can to keep our workload appropriate to the expectations of school, and to make sure we are having as much fun as possible!

In ancient history, we cover the history of humanity from our transition from hunter gatherer groups, through the advent of civilization with the creation of the city to about the age of exploration. Modern world history picks up with the arrival of Europeans in the Americas.
Some other social studies courses I teach are: psychology, American government and anthropology.
In psychology we study the mind, the cause of behavior and its impact on the people around us as well as society.
In American government, we study the documents that inspired our Constitution and method of government as well the Constitution itself. We learn about political parties, the election process, how to vote as well as many other facets of both our federal and state systems of governing.
In Anthropology we study how Humans have evolved and adapted with culture, language and belief systems the distant prehistoric past through to modern times.

I am also the earth systems teacher!! You might be wondering what we do in this kind of science class? Earth systems is typically a 9th grade class that is essentially an intro to all things science for high school. We study a little bit of Astronomy, Geology, Meteorology. Oceanography Ecology and Chemistry.
